I'm Kenzie
I document wedding days the way your favorite romantic comedy feels. Real, a little chaotic, and full of the moments you didn’t see coming.
One of the most common things I hear from couples after their wedding day is, “It all went by so fast.”
After months (or even years) of planning, your wedding day finally arrives, and before you know it, you’re packing up decorations, saying goodbye to guests, and wondering where the day went.
The truth is that wedding days are busy. There are people to hug, timelines to follow, photos to take, and countless little moments competing for your attention. That’s why I always encourage couples to intentionally build private moments into their wedding day timeline.
These moments give you and your new spouse a chance to slow down, breathe, and actually experience the day together.
Option 1: A First Look, First Touch, or Private Vows
Before the ceremony begins, consider setting aside time for a first look, a first touch, or exchanging private vows.
This can be one of the most meaningful moments of the entire day. Instead of saving every interaction for the ceremony, you’ll have a chance to connect, calm any nerves, and take in the excitement together before everything officially begins.
Many couples tell me that this private time helps them feel more relaxed and present throughout the rest of the day.
Option 2: Take a Few Minutes After Portraits
If you don’t want to see each other before the ceremony, you can still create intentional space afterward.
After family photos and newlywed portraits, consider taking a few minutes alone before being introduced into your reception. Find a quiet corner, grab a drink, and simply enjoy being married.
This is especially valuable for couples who haven’t seen each other all day. You’ll finally have a chance to talk about your morning, share your favorite parts of the ceremony, and soak in the fact that you’re officially married.
Option 3: Have a Private Dinner
One of my favorite options is a private dinner.
After your grand entrance and first dance, you can step away to a private space and enjoy your meal together before spending the rest of the evening celebrating with guests.
During the reception, you’ll likely be pulled in a hundred different directions. A private dinner gives you a chance to slow down, enjoy your food, and spend a few uninterrupted moments together before the party really gets going.
Why These Moments Matter
Your wedding day is about more than checking items off a timeline. It’s about celebrating the beginning of your marriage.
Creating intentional space throughout the day allows you to be fully present for the experience instead of feeling like you’re constantly rushing from one event to the next.
Whether it’s a first look, a few quiet moments after the ceremony, or a private dinner, these small pockets of time can make a huge difference in how you remember your wedding day.
Years from now, you probably won’t remember every detail of the timeline. But you’ll remember how it felt to pause, hold your spouse’s hand, and take in one of the biggest days of your lives together.Privacy Policy
