I'm Kenzie
I document wedding days the way your favorite romantic comedy feels. Real, a little chaotic, and full of the moments you didn’t see coming.
One of my favorite things about being a photographer in a new city is getting to know it through a camera.
I’m constantly looking for new places to photograph my couples—not just the obvious locations, but the little streets, parks, restaurants, and hidden corners that can give a session personality.
Recently, I spent some time location scouting around Jacksonville’s San Marco neighborhood, and I quickly realized that this area has so much potential for engagement sessions and couples photography.
If you’re looking for a location where you can get several completely different looks without spending your entire session driving around Jacksonville, San Marco might be worth putting on your list.
Here’s what I found.

First, I headed over to Fletcher Park in San Marco.
And honestly? This spot has so much going for it.
Fletcher Park sits along Atlantic Boulevard and includes the historic Preservation Hall, which was originally built in 1888 as St. Paul’s Episcopal Church before being relocated to the park.
That little historic chapel immediately gives the area a quaint and adorable different feel.
Not only is the chapel adorable, but it is situated in the middle of a beautiful park filled with trees and greenery.
The combination makes it easy to create images that feel romantic and timeless without needing a complicated location setup.

After Fletcher Park, I headed into the little downtown area of San Marco.
And this is where I really started thinking about how much variety you could get into one session.
San Marco’s commercial district has restaurants, shops, sidewalks, historic buildings, and plenty of little details that can add personality to photos. The neighborhood is known for its lively San Marco Square and its mix of historic residential and commercial spaces.
There were so many places where I could picture a couple walking around, grabbing a drink or dinner, laughing together, and just interacting naturally.
I even came across a cute pizza spot that immediately made me think:
Date night engagement session.
Imagine starting your session dressed up, walking around San Marco, stopping for pizza, and capturing the two of you just enjoying a normal night together.
That kind of session has so much more personal than simply standing somewhere and taking pretty pictures.
One of my biggest takeaways from scouting this area was just how many different little parks and green spaces are packed into San Marco.
Fletcher Park is probably the most obvious option, but it’s not the only one.
The City of Jacksonville lists several parks throughout the San Marco area, including Balis Park, Landon Park, Southside Park, and others.
That gives you a lot of flexibility depending on the look you’re going for.
Want something lush and green?
Want something more urban?
Want historic architecture?
Want to walk around and incorporate a few different environments?
You can potentially get several of those looks without traveling very far.
And as a photographer, that’s exactly what I want in a session location.

The biggest reason San Marco stood out to me wasn’t necessarily one specific location.
It was the variety.
You can start with romantic portraits surrounded by greenery, walk through the neighborhood, incorporate historic architecture, stop at a restaurant, and finish with some more candid images on the streets.
It gives your session a feeling of movement and storytelling instead of making it feel like you’re standing in one location for an hour.
And because so many of these spots are close together, you can spend more time actually photographing and less time sitting in the car.

As I was finishing up my location scouting trip and driving away, I saw a street that was just beautiful.
Of course, I had to stop and take a photo of it
That’s probably one of my favorite things about location scouting. Sometimes the places you find aren’t even the locations you were looking for.
You notice the light.
You notice the trees.
You notice the architecture.
You see a little corner and immediately think, I could photograph a couple here.
That’s the way I want to continue getting to know Jacksonville—as a photographer.
Not just by finding the most popular locations, but by learning all of the little places that could help tell my couples’ stories.
If you’re looking for a Jacksonville engagement session location, don’t feel like you have to choose one beautiful park and stay there for the entire session.
Think about what you actually enjoy doing together.
Maybe that’s getting coffee.
Maybe it’s walking around your favorite neighborhood.
Maybe it’s grabbing pizza and going on a date.
Maybe it’s dressing up and exploring somewhere beautiful.
Your engagement photos should feel like you two, not like you showed up at a random location because it looked good on Pinterest.
And that’s exactly why I’m always scouting new places around Jacksonville.
Because the best location isn’t necessarily the prettiest one.
It’s the one that gives you space to be yourselves.
