Wedding Day Detail Box Guide

Wedding galleries are filled with all kinds of meaningful moments, and one important element of all great wedding galleries are the photos that capture the little details from your wedding day- A.K.A detail photos.

These images capture the carefully chosen elements that make your wedding uniquely yours. From invitation suites and florals to jewelry, table settings, and sentimental keepsakes, detail photos help preserve the little things that might otherwise be overlooked in the chaos of the day.

In my time as a wedding photographer, I have learned that the best way to ensure that all of your details get captured in the best way possible is to collect them and put them all in a specific box before the morning of your wedding. By having this box prepared, you get to avoid the panic of collecting your details when your photographer arrives, and you can feel confident that all of your details will get the recognition they deserve.

To help you make sure you have all of the details you want captured, here is a list of items you may want to consider adding into your details box. This list includes items that I have seen or would love to see in wedding detail photos. Keep in mind that all of these are just suggestions, you DO NOT have to include these if they don’t feel like you. What you include really depends on the elements you include in your wedding day!

Items from both of you:

• Your shoes & your partner’s shoes
• Engagement ring & both wedding bands
• Any Jewelry that either of your are wearing 
• Perfume & cologne bottles
• Vow books

Random Items:

• Any printed items (menus, programs, etc.)
• Ring dish/ring box
• Items with sentimental value (especially things passed on from family member’s weddings)
• Champagne glasses
• Items that go with the wedding theme (Fans, thrifted items, swans from throughout the day, etc.)
• Customized items (koozies, glassware, dishes, etc.) 
• Religious or culturally significant items (bible, rosary, etc.)

Unique Items you could include:

• Photos of family members at their wedding 
• Polaroids/photos of the two of you
• Disposable cameras
• Handkerchiefs 
• Newspaper clippings from the day of your wedding 
• Left over ribbon or lace from your florals or table setting 
• Plane ticket or passport if your are having a destination wedding 
• Small mementos from your relationship (a movie ticket from your first date, a photo strip of the two of you, etc.)

Most forgotten wedding detail

Invitation Suite

• Wedding invitation
• Save the date
• Any other stationary you had customized for your wedding (You may want to include a couple of each to give your photographer some more creative freedom, especially if your invites/save the dates are double sided)

Invitation suites are probably the most forgotten item that should be in your detail box. It’s something that if you didn’t think to pack it before the morning of the wedding, you probably don’t have it at your venue. These are also important things to get photos of because they are beautiful, special, and probably really expensive.

At the end of the wedding, all that you will have left are the photos that will turn to memories of the day. Someday when your grandchildren look back at your photos, they will see all of these details that made your day special.
