I'm Kenzie
I document wedding days the way your favorite romantic comedy feels. Real, a little chaotic, and full of the moments you didn’t see coming.
For today’s location scouting adventure, I headed to Downtown Jacksonville to see what I could find.
And let me just say… there is SO much potential.
From historic architecture to beautiful old churches and one of Jacksonville’s most recognizable theaters, downtown has so many spots that I could already picture using for couples and engagement sessions.
Here’s what caught my eye.

Our first stop was the Duval County Clerk’s office, and immediately, I was drawn to the architecture.
The building has these gorgeous, oversized columns that give it such a classic and timeless feel.
As a photographer, I’m always looking for interesting architectural elements that can create depth and variety in a gallery. A building like this gives you an easy way to incorporate that editorial, city feel into couples photos.
After checking out the courthouse, we spent some time simply wandering around downtown.
And honestly, this is one of my favorite ways to location scout.
You don’t always know what you’re going to find until you start walking.
We came across old churches, historic buildings, interesting architectural details, and little pockets of the city that I could immediately envision using for couples photos.
There’s something about photographing couples in an urban environment that creates a completely different feeling than a traditional park or beach session.
You get texture.
You get architecture.
You get movement.
You get those little in-between moments of a couple walking down the street or leaning against a building.
And the best part?
You can create a gallery that feels like a story rather than a collection of photos taken in one spot.

Our last stop was the Florida Theatre, and this might have been my favorite.
The building itself is so cute, but the Florida Theatre sign really got me.
There is something about incorporating recognizable Jacksonville landmarks into couples photos that makes a session feel connected to the city.
The Florida Theatre has been a part of downtown Jacksonville since 1927 and is one of the city’s most recognizable historic landmarks.
And from a photography perspective, it gives you something that I love: personality.
I can already picture a couple getting dressed up for a night downtown, walking around the theater, grabbing dinner or drinks afterward, and turning their engagement session into an actual date night.
That’s the kind of session I love.
Not just, “Let’s stand here and take some pretty pictures.”
But, “Let’s go do something together and I’ll document it.”
The biggest thing I took away from this scouting trip was just how much variety downtown has.
You can incorporate historic architecture, large columns, old churches, city streets, storefronts, and iconic Jacksonville landmarks—all within the same general area.
That means your engagement session doesn’t have to look like every other engagement session.
If you’re a couple who loves the city, architecture, getting dressed up, or exploring new places together, downtown Jacksonville could be such a fun fit.
And honestly, I think that’s what I’m looking for most when I’m scouting locations.
Not just a place that looks pretty.
A place that gives my couples something to do.
Because when you’re actually walking, exploring, laughing, talking, and enjoying each other, the photos become so much more natural.
